The setting is a huge factor in in the understanding of the story. The story takes place on an isolated island out the coast of Costa Rica that has become a theme park exhibiting prehistorical dinosaurs. Here dinosaurs roam unrestricted. The only restraint they have were gates and fences that could easily be knocked down by the gigantic animals. The island in the book sets an supernatural setting. The island is said to be top in security and nothing could go wrong, only it is just a death trap waiting to happen. The referee gets this impression when the helicopter first arrives to the i sland. The island is referred to hell very often in the book, but the movie does not come out and state it. instead the movie makes you think that everything will be alright on the island, but the audience knows that something bad is going to happen just because of the setting.
